Hey Reader,

Happy New Year!

Hope you had a chance to refresh over the holidays and are ready to take on a new year of changes in our constantly evolving world of digital marketing!

If there was one phrase I want you to focus on this year it would be the topic of my latest podcast, The Democratization of Discoverability.

Related to that phrase, if there was one keyword I want you to remember this year, it is a simple one: Output.

With advances in generative AI, it is easier that ever to create content in a variety of formats in your own or business brand voice. It's also easier than ever to use AI to analyze your content, your target audience persona, and your competitors to see what is doing well, what isn't, where the content gaps are, and ultimately what content you should be focusing on.

As I talk about in The Age of Influence, those who publish content yield influence online. They are also discovered online, not just by search engines and social media users, but now also by large language models.

I don't want you to create content for the sake of output like some other "gurus" (not naming names!) preach, but there should be nothing holding you back from being able to create more and better content in 2025 than you did in 2024.

And if there is something holding you back, it's time to look into what that might be and how to remedy it.

I'll give you an example: I wanted to publish 50 podcast episodes in 2024, but I "failed," only publishing 39. I realize now that one of the things holding me back was sticking to a regiment of always including industry news before I began each episode. That required extra work but also special timing. At the end of the day, though, I reminded myself that people are not listening to my podcast for the news but for the advice. So I decided in 2025 to simply stop doing that segment and to focus on the topic of each episode. In this way I think I can create more and better quality podcast content in 2025.

Hope the explanation makes sense! If you are stuck and need help, please reply and let me know your situation so that I can give you some advice!

Now on to this week's news!

Roger Montti’s article highlights Google's pivot toward AI-first experiences in 2025, led by apps like Gemini and Project Astra. For SEO and publishers, this signals a shift in user behavior, requiring a broader strategy that embraces AI-driven interfaces. Neal Schaffer February 28, 2025 Hey Reader, I had an amazing interview yesterday with journalist turned copywriter Steven Lewis (you can watch it here). He talked about how you can literally use ChatGPT as your CMO. While that might sound far-fetched for some, he provided some very tactical and actionable feedback to help you think differently about AI, similar along the lines of what I talked about last week. The writing is on the wall: AI can help amplify your IP and bring your business or...

Neal Schaffer February 21, 2025 Hey Reader, This week I had an epiphany moment regarding AI in my work. Many are talking about the LLMs or certain prompts, but I think everyone is missing the point. Just as I talk about how you need a Digital-First approach in your marketing in Digital Threads, I think a similar approach is needed to get the most benefits from AI. What that means is that you need an AI-First approach to your marketing. What about Digital-First then, you ask? It's simple:...
