Neal Schaffer's Top 10 Weekly News

June 21, 2025

Hey Reader,

This week's news includes two insightful pieces in my Search Advice about the impact that AI is having on the SEO industry.

I plan to publish a new podcast episode on the topic next week, but is clear that SEO has forever changed and will not go back to its pre-AI days.

Just like the old days of generating traffic from social media are gone, it is beginning to look similar for search. Of course, the traffic won't go to zero, but we can say the same for social referred traffic.

We now need to manage our expectations for what is possible with search and create our Library of Content much more intentionally. This is why understanding Digital Threads is so important because we always have to be managing our digital marketing priorities and relying on the power of other threads when one becomes less effective.

I hope you'll read the two Search Advice articles (Welcome To Zero-Click Search. Please Leave Your Traffic At The Door. and The New Normal) and would love to hear your feedback after you do!

Now on to this week's Top 10 news!

If you're not adapting your content to these trends, you're already behind.

If video is part of your strategy, it’s time to embrace the shift—Reels are officially the center of Meta’s engagement universe.

Do LinkedIn Videos Work Better Than Blogs? Here’s The Data

Short-form video is hot on LinkedIn—but does it work better than blogs? In this 90-day test, Scott Gillum finds that while video boosts impressions and engagement, it falls short on real business impact. Blogs drove more comments and profile views, but neither format generated leads. Bottom line? LinkedIn’s algorithm favors familiarity, not format. If you’re chasing ROI, the problem might not be the content—it might be LinkedIn itself.

Neal Schaffer's Top 10 Weekly News June 14, 2025 Hey Reader, Last week I talked about my shift in social media dashboards to improve efficiency. This week another issue arose that was a reminder that we always need to have a replacement tool in our back pocket. On Thursday there was a massive Internet outage (click here for the details), and although you might not have noticed it, one of the tools that I regularly use is still unable to be used as I type this: Calendly. Calendly has become...
