Winning LinkedIn Content, Without AI

In this week's newsletter:

  • Meta wants every Reel to become a shoppable storefront!
  • Trust is low, verification is high, and that's where cited, credible brands win the visit.
  • When it comes to LinkedIn, stop outsourcing your point of view to a prompt.

Hey Reader,

This week I stopped clicking around inside three of my marketing tools and just started telling them what to do.

No dashboards, no digging through menus, no popup windows asking if I'm sure. I typed what I wanted, and Kit, OpusClip, and Taplio went and did it. All three rolled out MCP connections in the last week or so, and I connected every one of them.

Here's the thing, though: this is a much bigger deal than a convenience upgrade.

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. Anthropic introduced it back in late 2024, and by now the whole industry has adopted it as the open standard, so this isn't a Claude-only trick anymore. The simplest way I can explain it: an MCP connection lets your AI talk directly to your software. Instead of you learning where every button lives, you just prompt what you want done, and the tool does it. The interface stops being something you wrestle with and becomes something your AI operates for you.

We are very early here. But I keep thinking about how search is migrating to AI right in front of us, and I suspect SaaS usage is next. If people start running their tools by prompting instead of clicking, then the tools that win won't just be the ones with the best features. They'll be the ones that ship the most capable MCPs, and pair them with Skills that extend what those connections can actually do. That's a brand new battleground, and most companies haven't even shown up to it yet.

Which got me thinking about you: does your favorite marketing tool have an MCP connection yet? If it doesn't, it might be worth seeing whether a competitor already does, because that gap is only going to matter more from here.

And if you've already started using MCP connections, I'd genuinely love to hear how it's going for you. Hit reply and tell me what you've connected.

OK, with that, let's get into this week's updates!

This Week's News

ChatGPT Access Tied To 9% Drop In Traditional Search - A new research paper finally puts a number on what you've felt all year: broader ChatGPT access is tied to a 9% drop in traditional search visits. It's the first study to isolate that effect at scale, and it reframes AI as a direct competitor for the click you used to own, not a side channel. If your discovery strategy still assumes people start on Google, you're optimizing for a web that's already shrinking. Keep waiting to diversify, and the traffic won't be there to win back. Search Engine Journal

Writing Winning LinkedIn Content, Without AI - The irony is hard to miss: as everyone races to automate their LinkedIn presence, the posts actually getting shared are the ones that read like a person wrote them. This breaks down what separates content that stops the scroll from the AI-generated sameness flooding the feed, from hook structure to the ideas only you could have. Your expertise and your stories are the moat AI can't copy. Stop outsourcing your point of view to a prompt, and write the post only you could publish. Social Media Examiner

Claude vs ChatGPT: Which AI Is Right For Your Business In 2026? - I moved my entire content operation from ChatGPT to Claude this year, so this isn't a spec-sheet comparison written from the sidelines. In my latest post I break down which assistant actually deserves to become the place your real work happens, across writing and voice, pricing tiers, projects, and image generation. The honest answer isn't the same for everyone, and I show you how to decide based on how you actually work. Get this choice right and you stop collecting AI subscriptions and start compounding one workflow that gets sharper every week. Neal Schaffer

How Vanta's $517K/Month SEO Moat Translates Into AI Visibility - Ask ChatGPT or Google's AI Mode for the best compliance software and Vanta is already in the room. This breakdown reverse-engineers how they got there, and the number reframes everything: buying that presence through ads would run about $517,000 a month. That's the real worth of earned AI visibility over rented attention, and why brands investing in citations now are building something rivals can't outspend later. Organic that AI trusts isn't the cheap option. At $517K a month, it's the bigger asset on your balance sheet. Foundation Inc.

How Much Does Email Marketing Cost In 2026? - After years as a fractional CMO watching companies overpay, I wrote the email budget guide I wish clients had before they signed anything. In my latest post I break down what email marketing actually costs in 2026 by stage, service model, and tool, with no vendor spin and no padded retainers. You'll see where the money really goes and where you're quietly being upsold. If you've ever Googled that question and left more confused, this is the honest breakdown you wanted, so read it before your next renewal and hit reply if your numbers look different from mine. What Conversion Data From 10,000+ Creator Storefronts Reveals - The counterintuitive part is buried in data from 10,000+ creator storefronts: brands are seeing conversion lifts of 30%, 40%, even 214%, but not where you'd expect. The clicks are warm and the pages are cold, and that gap is where most creator budgets quietly leak. If you've judged influencer partnerships by reach or even clicks, this reframes the scoreboard. The creator sends a primed, high-intent buyer, and your landing experience is what loses the sale. The influencer isn't underperforming. Your post-click page is. Influencer Marketing Hub

How Marketers Can Use AI To Run A Competitive Analysis In Under A Minute -
The work that used to eat weeks and cost up to $10,000 now takes about a minute. This walkthrough shows how to run a full competitive analysis with AI, from positioning gaps to messaging angles, in the time it takes to refill your coffee. The point isn't the speed trick, it's that the analysis moat just collapsed for anyone who learns this now. Your competitors are testing it this quarter. The window where this feels like an edge closes fast, so build the muscle before it's table stakes. Marketing AI Institute

Only 28% Of Americans Trust AI Search — And That Gap Is Your SEO Opening -
Only 28% of Americans trust AI search results, and that skepticism is the opening most marketers are too spooked to see. While everyone panics about vanishing clicks, this argues the smarter play is building for the click-through moment that happens when AI can't fully satisfy a query. Trust is low, verification is high, and that's where cited, credible brands win the visit. The industry is racing to optimize for the answer box. The edge is quietly moving to brands that earn the follow-up click people still make when they don't believe the machine. Search Engine Journal

Meta Wants Every Reel To Become A Storefront - Meta just declared the era of link in bio over, and it wants every Reel to become a shoppable storefront instead. For anyone who's spent years driving traffic off-platform to convert, this is a real strategic fork: Meta is betting it can keep the entire buying journey inside the feed. That's more reach and less friction, but also less of your own data and a customer relationship you rent rather than own. So the question worth asking before you go all-in: when the sale never leaves Instagram, whose audience is it really? Influencer Marketing Hub

27 Innovative ChatGPT Prompts For Email Marketing [+Output] - If you stare at a blank email draft dreading the planning, this swipe file of 27 ChatGPT prompts is built to get you unstuck fast, with the actual outputs shown so you know what each one produces. It covers subject lines, segmentation angles, and full campaign sequences you can adapt to your voice in minutes. The value isn't the prompts themselves, it's reclaiming the hours you spend on the blank page. Treat AI as your first draft, never your final one, and the send gets faster without getting generic.
