LinkedIn Is Now Policing AI Slop

Latest Digital / Social Media Marketing News & Insights

Presented by Neal Schaffer

In this week's newsletter:

  • Gemini just hit over one billion users! (yep, with a B)
  • Seen them before? There’s a reason why AI-generated images look so familiar (and cookie-cutter)
  • LinkedIn’s “The Credibility Stack” is worth the read!

Hey Reader,

The same question keeps coming up with my fractional CMO clients: how do you actually get good at AI?

If you've read Maximize Your Social, you know I'm a fan of the PDCA cycle that Dr. W. Edwards Deming made famous. Plan, Do, Check, Act. It's the most elegant system I've found for managing strategic work, and the whole point is that the work is never finished. Every result feeds the next plan. Kaizen, forever.

AI works the same way once you take real control of it.

That means dedicated projects for the work you repeat, and a set of project files holding the rules you keep refining. The easiest one to picture is a voice rules file. When AI hands me something I would never say out loud, I don't just fix the line. I tell it what I'd have written instead, then ask it to update the voice file so it doesn't make that choice again.

Same with mistakes. I'm deep in Claude at the moment, and when it gets something wrong I ask why it happened and what would prevent it next time. The answer usually comes back as a revised project file.

Maybe I only landed on this because PDCA got drilled into me years ago. If it never got drilled into you, I hope this helps. I'm an open book on it.

This Week's News

Why Your AI Images Look Like Everyone Else's (And How To Fix It) - Your AI-generated images look like everyone else's because you're prompting the same way everyone else is. This walks through a seven-pillar prompt framework that forces specificity into every image you generate, from lighting and composition down to the small details that make a visual feel like it came from your brand rather than a model default. Most people jump straight to describing the subject and then wonder why the output feels generic. Generate one image both ways and the difference is impossible to miss. Social Media Examiner

LinkedIn Playbook Offers Guide To Optimizing For AI - LinkedIn has published its own guidance on getting cited by AI, and the framework it calls The Credibility Stack is worth studying. It's four layers of voice: your brand sets the point of view, employees humanize it, customers and peers validate it, and creators scale it. Trust compounds when those voices reinforce each other. Notice that three of the four layers are people who don't work in your marketing department. Read it as a spec sheet, not a think piece. Social Media Today

AI Search Engine Optimization: What 12 Months Of My Own AI Referral Data Actually Shows - I’ve been tracking my own AI referral data across 700 posts for a full twelve months, and the numbers surprised me. AI sends 1.6% of my sessions but 5.4% of my email signups, which means that traffic converts far better than it looks sitting on a dashboard. I also saw a 45% fall in AI referrals over the period, which complicates the story a lot of people are telling right now. Here's the complete picture, including what I'd do differently if I were setting up this tracking today. Neal Schaffer

A Proven Instagram Strategy For Business Growth - Most Instagram ad advice starts with the ad. This starts with your organic feed, and specifically with the posts that drove inquiries, downloads, or purchases rather than views. The method is simple enough to run this week: take three proven organic posts, turn them into ad creatives, let Meta distribute spend across them for a week or two, then cut the weakest and keep the other two running. There's also a cost-per-lead alert setup in here worth stealing outright. Social Media Examiner

How To Publish An Article On LinkedIn: A Step-By-Step Guide For 2026 - I've been publishing on LinkedIn since long before most people thought of it as a content platform, and long-form articles are still the most underused asset most professionals have. You already have the expertise, and LinkedIn hands you a publishing platform with no website, no hosting, and no separate blog to launch. My latest post walks through the entire process step by step for 2026, including the formatting choices that affect reach and the promotion steps most people skip the moment they hit publish. AI Search Visibility ROI: How To Measure What Matters (And Ignore What Doesn't) - Everyone is measuring AI visibility. Almost nobody can tell their CFO what it's worth. This lays out a three-layer framework that moves from visibility to engagement to revenue, with an actual ROI formula at the end and a tracking method you can run yourself: five to ten prompts per topic cluster, across three or four platforms, rechecked on a consistent schedule. It's the closest thing to a version of this that survives a board deck. Hubspot

How To Batch 30 Days Of Instagram Content In One Day -
Posting to Instagram daily from scratch is how small teams burn out. The fix is grouping like tasks together instead of carrying each post from idea to publish one at a time. Start with a brain dump, sort what you get into four content pillars, cut down to sixteen or twenty posts, then write all the copy, produce all the visuals, and schedule the lot in one sitting. The advice to deliberately leave slots empty is the part most batching guides get wrong. Sprout Social

Google Gemini Passes 1B Monthly Users, 63% Now Use Voice -
Gemini has crossed one billion monthly users, and the more interesting number is that 63% of them now use voice. That second stat should change how you write more than the first one does. Voice queries run longer, sound conversational, and arrive as full questions, which changes what content gets retrieved and read back aloud to someone who never sees your page. Watch this split between typed and spoken search, because it is still moving fast. Search Engine Journal

What LinkedIn's AI Slop Crackdown Means For Your Posts - LinkedIn now lets members flag posts as AI slop, and the irony is hard to miss. Microsoft owns both LinkedIn and a sizable stake in OpenAI, so the company selling you the AI features is now policing what those features produce. The sharper warning here is that a human-reported button gets weaponized against posts people simply disagree with. The practical response isn't to abandon AI on the platform, it's to make sure there's a judgment in the post a model couldn't have reached on its own. Forbes

A 7-Step Guide To Running Ads On ChatGPT - ChatGPT ads are now open to essentially any advertiser, with daily budgets starting around $25 instead of the six-figure minimums of the pilot era. This is a straight seven-step walkthrough of getting a campaign live, which is far more useful right now than another think piece about what AI advertising means. The audience is enormous and the competition is still thin. That combination never lasts, which is the real argument for testing this quarter rather than next. MarTech
